History of the FFA Enrichment Center

Since 1991, there have been several fundraising campaigns to accomplish the Iowa FFA Foundation’s dream to build the FFA Enrichment Center. Through tireless efforts by capital campaign members, FFA members and chapters, and numerous individuals the FFA Enrichment Center celebrated groundbreaking for the new Center on the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) campus on October 8, 2007.

In early 2010, the FFA Enrichment Center opened their new doors to the FFA, Des Moines Area Community College, and the general public. The FFA Enrichment Center dedication and open house was held on April 17, 2010 and welcomed nearly 400 people to take their first look at the exciting, new and innovative conference center, Iowa FFA Foundation headquarters, and DMACC’s Agricultural teaching facility.

Designed to promote leadership development, personal growth and career success for both high school and college-age Iowa youth, the FFA Enrichment Center has unique tools and resources to enhance the educational experience. Some examples include computer and science laboratories, future fiber optic connectivity for long-distance learning, recreational/exhibit space and breakout rooms for groups of all sizes. In addition, the 60,000 square foot center offers state-of-the-art conference center facilities that can seat more than 500 participants.

The FFA Enrichment Center is the result of a vision of hard work from the Iowa FFA Foundation leaders, statewide Iowa FFA Chapters, agribusiness and other industry sponsors and DMACC officials who are dedicated to Iowa youth and agriculture. The letters "FFA" stood for Future Farmers of America; however, in 1988 the official name of the organization was changed from "Future Farmers of America" to "The National FFA Organization" to reflect the growing diversity of agriculture.
